Cottonwood’s SolarAPP+ Pilot Program:

SolarAPP+ is a third-party software program that can be used to verify code compliance for residential photovoltaic (PV) projects. The City of Cottonwood Building Department will accept SolarAPP+-approved designs for the application and permitting of residential photovoltaic projects. Please see the information below to determine project eligibility and the process for submittal and permit.
Submitting with SolarAPP+
1. Determine Eligibility:
o Must be an Arizona licensed contractor and have a Cottonwood Business Registration number
o Residential (single-family or duplex residence) rooftop installations only
o Structure supporting PV system must be legal, permitted, code-compliant structure
o No ballasted or ground-mounted systems
o Not located within the Historic Preservation district or FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area
o Must meet the following technical requirements:
No existing PV or energy storage systems
PV system roof loading not to exceed 4 psf dead load
2. Submit for Review through SolarAPP+:
o Submit the proposed design to SolarAPP+
o Register or login
o Input project design parameters into SolarAPP+
o A processing fee will be assessed by SolarAPP+ for the use of their product
3. Apply for your permit through the City of Cottonwood Building Department:
o Applicant must enter SolarAPP+ approval ID in the applicable field and complete the details, along with a Cottonwood Business Registration Number.
o Upload all of SolarAPP+-approved documents and plot plan. Submit payment, pay, and print out the permit instantly.
o Submit revised plans to SolarAPP+ and obtain the required approval report.
o Applicant must include “Revision", permit number, and property address in the subject line of the email to: Building@cottonwoodaz.gov
o The Building Department will update the existing permit and notify the applicant via email if additional fees are due.
