Airport Commission
The City of Cottonwood is seeking applicants to fill one full 3-year term seat on its Airport Commission. This volunteer position is appointed by the City Council and serves without pay.
The Commission consists of five voting members. Four members shall be tenants/lessees of the Cottonwood Municipal Airport or have a working knowledge of aviation matters. One member should not be required to be a tenant/lessee of the Cottonwood Municipal Airport nor be required to have a working knowledge of airport matters, however, the member must live within the corporate limits of the City of Cottonwood and shall represent the general public interest. This open seat must be filled by a tenant/lessee of the Cottonwood Municipal Airport or by someone with working knowledge of aviation matters. Residency is not required for this available seat.
The Commission works in an advisory capacity on matters relating to the Cottonwood Municipal Airport. The Commission supports City Council and staff through assisting in the support and enhancement of the Airport and its operation to deliver optimum services and safety to its citizens and the users of the airport.

Board of Adjustment
The City of Cottonwood is seeking applicants to fill two seats on its Board of Adjustment, each for a full three-year term. This volunteer position is appointed by the City Council and serves without pay. All five commission members must be residents of Cottonwood living within the incorporated city limits.
The Board is a quasi-judicial decision-making body that hears variance requests and appeals of decisions of the Zoning Administrator. Additional details on Board of Adjustment allowable procedures can be found in Arizona Revised Statutes Section 9-462.06. Training is available.
The Commission typically meets only on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

Historic Preservation Commission
The City of Cottonwood is seeking applicants to fill two seats on its Historic Preservation Commission, one for a partial term expiring June 5, 2025, and one for a full three-year term. This volunteer position is appointed by the City Council and serves without pay. The available seat must be filled by a resident of the incorporated City of Cottonwood.
The Commission consists of seven members, five of whom shall be residents of the city. The two members whom need not be residents of the city must have substantial ties within the corporate limits of the city, such as owning real property, owning a business, employment within the city limits, or based on any other factors deemed relevant by the City Council. Professional experience in the fields of architecture, planning, history, archaeology, or construction is highly desired, but not required.
The Commission works in an advisory capacity on matters relating to historic preservation, works to increase the public awareness of the values of historic preservation efforts, assists in developing procedures to protect and enhance historic resources, implements and hosts fundraising events for the local historic grant fund, organizes and attends an annual historic property tour, volunteers to assist with various historic property surveys related to State Historic Preservation grants, maintains a historic preservation plan for the City of Cottonwood, and performs various other duties the Commission elects to participate in. The Commission also reviews development within historic districts, maintains the local historic properties inventory, and assists with designating historic landmarks for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is a working commission; a certain level of time commitment is expected of each member for projects and events outside of the typical monthly meetings. Commission members can expect to devote approximately 4-8 hours per week plus time at events; more hours may be necessary the weeks leading up to events.
Historic Preservation Commission meetings are typically held the 4th Wednesday of each month starting at 6 pm. Dates may change due to holidays and as needed.

Personnel Board
The Cottonwood City Council is seeking candidates to fill two seats on its Personnel Board. The seats are for two-year terms which will expire on December 31, 2026. The five-member board is made up of two citizens at large, who are appointed by the City Council, and three City employees elected by the employees of the City, who all serve two-year terms. The available seats are for citizen at large positions.
The purpose of the City of Cottonwood Personnel Board is to hear appeals of employees’ grievances, disciplinary actions, and dismissals in accordance with City policy and the policies set forth in the Employee Manual. The Personnel Board is also active in employee recognition programs.

Planning and Zoning Commission
The City of Cottonwood is seeking applicants to fill two seats on its Planning and Zoning Commission, one for a partial term expiring May 19, 2025, and one for full three-year term. This volunteer position is appointed by the City Council and serves without pay. All seven commission members must be residents of Cottonwood living within the incorporated city limits.
The Commission is responsible for the review of land use proposals (conditional use permits, zoning, subdivisions, code amendments and other special planning projects), as well as issues pertaining to architectural style, building design/materials, colors, landscaping, signs, etc. Preference will be given to applicants with a design-related background, training or experience, including architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, planning, fine arts, etc.
The Commission typically meets once a month, however, may meet as needed as part of a public hearing process. On-going attendance is essential.
