City of Cottonwood Addresses Arsenic Concerns

at Cottonwood Kids Park

COTTONWOOD, AZ – The City of Cottonwood is aware of information circulating regarding alleged high levels of arsenic in the soil at the Cottonwood Kids Park. At this time, the only report released to the public from the five months of air and soil sampling by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is the results of the air quality sampling, which were released today. The soil sampling results have not been released, and the date of the study's release has not been determined.

Based on the results of the air quality testing report, there is no indication of any health risks at Cottonwood Kids Park, and as such, it will remain open until the City is notified by ADEQ and/or the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) of the presence of any health hazards associated with the air and soil. We remain committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

ADEQ and ADHS will hold a public meeting at the Cottonwood Recreation Center on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to discuss their findings' results and answer any questions. Please visit https://www.azdeq.gov/node/10393 for more information.
