History

In 1992 the Verde Mingus Blowout was created as a way for Cottonwood to engage its citizens in a fun and healthy activity while highlighting the natural beauty of our local area. For many years this race was successful as a 10K, however in 2007, after the unexpected passing of our City Manager, Brian Mickelsen, this race was rebranded in his honor with the addition of longer distances to pay homage to his passion for running. Since then, the race has continued to evolve to meet the needs of our community. After the 2019 race, feeling that we have captured the physical beauty of our area through our races, we decided to enhance our event by incorporating the City of Cottonwood's brand. As “The Heart of Arizona’s Wine Country” we are thrilled to unveil the new Cottonwood’s Vintage Run

Our three competitive runs, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, and 2 mile, feature the same breathtaking courses that have highlighted the beauty of Cottonwood and its surrounding areas since the inception of this race. The new Half-Corked 5K features Cottonwood as "The Heart of Arizona's Wine Country". Whether you are here for a fast time, or here for a good time, Cottonwood's Vintage Run has something for everyone.

Fun-fueled 5K with celebratory wine at the finish line. You may have 20/20 vision, but this race requires glasses!

Enjoy this fresh new race as you run through the Heart of Arizona Wine Country in Historic Old Town Cottonwood, and through the natural canopy of the beautiful State Park’s Jail Trail. This isn’t just any race though, so be sure to steady your pace as all runners will be carrying a cup of water as they run.

This exciting new race features a twist. All runners will start the race with a full glass of water…keep it full because it will be replaced with Finish Line Wine at the end. The more in your cup, the better the fill-up ;).

*This race is limited to 21+ and is an untimed fun run.
