Jody Fanning has been the Chief of Police since June of 2008. Prior to his selection as police chief Jody has worked for the Cottonwood Police Department for 22 years. Jody has served in many roles in the department including Field Training Officer, Investigations, Fatal Accident Investigations Team, and Critical Investigations Team. Jody is the first known Chief to have worked his way up to that position by going through all the ranks at the Cottonwood Police Department. Jody is a 1986 graduate of the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) in Tucson Az. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia. Jody is a current member of Project CENRTL through the University of Arizona for rural leadership and management. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Arizona Chiefs of Police, and the Arizona Chapter of the FBI National Academy.

Jody was born and raised in rural Arizona graduating from high school in Flagstaff Az. He is married with four wonderful children. Jody enjoys his time off with his family doing many outdoor activities including hunting, camping, softball, golf, and just being in the outdoors. The other things he enjoys is being involved in his community and with as many youth activities as possible.
