Life Safety Inspections

Safety inspections on all commercial properties are a top priority of the Fire Prevention Office.  Inspections identify fire safety issues and code violations that may be in your business.  Our inspectors will work with you to understand the current codes and provide you information to ensure your property is safe and in compliance with current codes.  Click here to download a helpful list of common hazards.  This information will enable you to identify and correct unsafe hazards and conditions that may exist in your business.

We will provide inspections in your home as well.  Click here for a helpful list of hazards that we will be looking for during an inspection.

Plan Review

Cottonwood's Fire Prevention Office is responsible for reviewing plans to ensure that all fire code requirements adopted by the city and/or state are met for any structure being built in our community.

Fire Sprinklers Save Lives!

Did You Know?
1. Sprinklers rarely leak.
2. Only the sprinkler head that is affected by the fire will activate.
3. Sprinkler heads are activated by heat only. Smoke without heat will not
cause a sprinkler to activate.
4. Sprinklers cause less damage than the fire itself. A sprinkler will control a fire in its early stages and will use considerably less water than the Fire Department would.
5. Sprinklers have been in use since the late eighteen hundreds to protect lives and property.

The City of Cottonwood has a sprinkler ordinance in place to protect lives and property in new residential and commercial construction.  Please contact the Fire Prevention Office for information on maintenance of your system.

Weed Abatement

During the hot, summer months, dry weeds, grass and brush present a severe fire hazard to our community.  It is important to keep a defensible space around the buildings on your property to protect them from fire.  Dry weeds and tall grass need to be cut short and brush and tree trimmings need to be removed from your property to protect your home and neighborhood.  Please call our office at (928) 634-2741 to report suspected hazards.

Fire Prevention Week

"Prevent Home Fire: Watch What You Heat" — that's the message of this year's Fire Prevention Week (FPW).

From October 5-11, we'll be spreading the word that more fires start in the kitchen than in any other part of the home — and teaching families and kids how to keep cooking fires from starting in the first place.

Juvenile Firesetting

Many adults can probably remember a time in their childhood when they were curious about fire. Today, children who use and misuse fire are a growing statistic. The Cottonwood Fire Department has a Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program to help protect our children.

Children of any age that display a curiosity for playing with fire or that set fires should be taken seriously. Keep all firesetting materials in a location inaccessible to children. For additional information or to seek assistance for a child, please contact our Fire Prevention Office at (928) 634-2741.

Something for All Ages

The Cottonwood Fire Department, in conjunction with other Fire Departments in the area, provide education in our area schools via innovative Spring and Fall programs.  Additionally, our Fire Prevention Office will assist in providing safety curricula such as "Learn Not to Burn" and "Risk Watch" to our community schools.

The fire prevention and safety lessons we learn at a young age have proven effective in protecting the young population at risk of losing their lives or being injured by fire.

The very young are not the only population at risk.  Statistics show that fire and fall deaths increase greatly as we age.  We provided educational programs geared specifically to the Senior members of our community.

Please call our office to schedule a presentation at your facility. You may also contact us to schedule a station tour for your class.
