Mobile Command Unit

Funding

Cottonwood Police Department's Mobile Command Unit was purchased and outfitted in 2009 through grants awarded to the department. Grants were received from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), Homeland Security, Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC), and Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

Description

The MCU is a 33 foot long 1998 Winnebago. The interior was refurbished by Farber Specialty Vehicles out of Columbus, OH. Several accessories and custom paint were added upon receipt of the vehicle in Cottonwood.

Capabilities

The MCU has the capability to act as a dispatch office for specialized field incidents, a WiFi unit for patrol officers and a field lighting unit for night time crime scenes or accident scenes. The MCU has been useful for DUI checkpoints and DUI patrol. It has been used as a command post for call-outs, local events such as "Dump the Drugs", education, and for the local Verde Valley Fair.

Maintenance

The MCU is maintained by our COP volunteers. They ensure that the MCU is ready for service at any time.
